How does automatic BCS measurement work?

The COW PROTECTOR camera unit captures the body contour of the cow as she passes. From this the AI determines the body condition score, for each individual animal and in real time.

Do the animals need sensors for BCS measurement?

No. The measurement is purely camera-based. No transponders or markings on the animal are needed.

How is the individual cow identified during BCS measurement?

The same AI that powers lameness detection identifies every animal with the camera and assigns the measurement to the right cow.

How often is the BCS recorded?

On every pass through the monitored area. This builds a trend rather than a snapshot.

Where do I see the BCS development?

In the COW PROTECTOR dashboard, available on smartphone, tablet and PC. There you see the current value and the trend for each animal.

What does my barn need for BCS measurement?

The same as for lameness detection: a straight, level and well-lit walkway of 5 to 6 metres, a mounting height of 3 to 4.5 metres and a stable internet connection.
