Where the camera sits

The camera unit is installed above the return lane after the milking parlour. The cows pass through the measuring area in the normal routine.

Key questions at a glance

How does lameness detection work?

A camera above the return lane records the gait of every cow. The AI assesses step asymmetry, back posture and walking speed, among other things, and returns a score from 1 to 5.

Do the cows have to wear sensors?

No. Detection is purely camera-based. Transponders, collars or pedometers are not needed.

How are the animals identified?

The AI identifies each individual cow with the camera, without intrusive sensors or markings on the animal.

How often is the assessment made?

On every pass through the monitored area. This produces regular values instead of isolated snapshots.

Where do I see the animals that stand out?

In the COW PROTECTOR dashboard, available on smartphone, tablet and PC. Conspicuous animals are highlighted.

What does my barn need for lameness detection?

A straight, level and well-lit walkway of 5 to 6 metres, a mounting height of 3 to 4.5 metres and a stable internet connection with at least 500 kBit/s upload.
